a new crochet pattern for winter!

Hey folks, it’s been far too long since I’ve updated the old blog, and for that, I’m sorry. The good news is that I’ve been spending a lot more time designing and I’ve even got a *real* published pattern to prove it!

Meet the Stuffable Stockings! The pattern is included in the Nov/Dec 2009 issue of Crochet Today! I’m so thrilled to be included – there are some seriously cute designs in this issue. The Capelet Swing Cardi by Mari Lynn Patrick and these Snuggly Slippers by Linda Permann are headed straight to the top of my queue.

As for my stockings, each one is made up of 17 granny-style hexagons pieced together, and the pattern includes some really helpful schematics so the whole thing is pretty straightforward. They’re made in Red Heart Soft Yarn, and they offer a great opportunity to play around with fun color variations!

Meeting the deadline on these was a toughie – the folks over at Crochet Today! wanted me to produce three stockings – a total of 51 crocheted hexagons! There were a few late nights involved, and marathons of some pretty embarrassing TV shows, but I got it done in the nick of time, and I’m really proud to see my name in print for the first time.

I hope you like the stockings. If you’d like to queue them up, be sure to pick up a copy of Crochet Today! and head over to ravelry to queue them up.

In fact, I had to send these off to the magazine a while ago, and I think enough time has passed that I can probably crank out a couple for me and Peter for our first Christmas as …. married people! That’s right, we’re no longer living in sin. We got hitched a couple weeks ago and we’re (hopefully) celebrating with out first Christmas in Chicago. So there you have it – I’ve been a busy, busy lady. :) Hope everyone out there in interwebland is doing well.

I am so ga-ga for these, Lauren. They actually remind me of the red and white stockings my brother and I had in the late 70s/early 80s. I’ll have to ask my mom if those were crochet and if my grandmother made them.

I went out and bought the mag yesterday for the sole purpose of trying to make one (or more!) of these. My crochet skills are pretty rudimentary, but I’m hopeful.

Brava on your first published design. It’s so fab!
