now interrupting this new mitten design preview for announcement about another new mitten design

So I guess what happens when I do designs for magazines is that I send them off months in advance and kind of forget them, because posting a teaser about one new mitten design two seconds before a different mitten design comes out it probably not the brightest move. At any rate, BEHOLD! I have a new design for crocheted mittens in the (forthcoming) Nov/Dec 2010 issue of Crochet Today! Here are the specs and description of the mittens on the CT site, and here they are on ravelry for your queuing and faving enjoyment.

They're called Mitten Remodel, and they're my take on a vintage design for crocheted mittens. Each mitten is made up of 6 hexagons that are stitched together leaving an opening on the palm to pick up stitches and add a simple thumb. The original idea had a mitten made of pieced together squares; I ultimately decided on hexagons, which make a softer shape at the top of the hand and the cuff.

I'm really pleased with the vintagey yet practical feel and I hope I can whip up another pair for myself soon in some more autumnal colors! They would make great end-of-fall-in-Chicago mittens. If you like them, the magazine should be hitting newsstands and mailboxes soon!

  1. Yay! The technical on-sale date for the issue is 9/28, but it seems many stores and subscribers get theirs earlier than that.

I cannot wait to get my issue! I hope it comes this week! I think you might officially be my favorite designer. The ratio of designs you release to designs I love is nearing 100%.
