Just kidding, I didn't really participate in a satanic ritual in the woods last weekend.
I just watched it.
But no seriously, the picture at the top of this post is from Bare Bones, a puppet / theater / performance art troop that put on a special Halloween show in a park in St. Paul. My husband and I were in the Twin Cities last weekend and happened upon the event. What it lacked in coherence it made up for in atmosphere, that's for sure. I'd definitely like to catch another one of their shows next time we're in town. After the show we headed to Psycho Suzi's for some tiki drinks, tater tots, and mingling with strangers in completely over the top Halloween costumes. We were sadly costumeless, mostly because we forget that time keeps passing when we're traveling, and we didn't realize we were going to be out in a bar on Saturday night of Halloween weekend. I at least got a festive drink. It was green and it involved dry ice, so there was lots of active fizzing and misting going on.
So today's post is a little scattered, mostly because I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night. I took a quick picture to say hello:

- hi, this is me, on my couch, at the end of the day - and headed to the blogher twitter to find today's writing prompt:
If you knew that whatever you ate next would be your last meal, what would you want it to be?
Honestly, this one feels odd for a couple different reasons. First of all, it makes me think immediately of the death penalty. Granted, it doesn't necessarily stipulate that we're talking about execution, but the reason I went right there is because my husband and I have been watching old episodes of the X-Files on netflix instant (HE HAS NOT SEEN THEM. CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THIS.) and we just saw Beyond the Sea.
Execution or no, I'm not sure where I would be able to draw the line on my last meal. Honestly, I might just eat myself to death. I mean, if you're going to die promptly thereafter, why limit yourself? This outlook probably reveals more about my outlook on food than I should, but hey - I just REALLY REALLY LIKE IT. Food is GREAT. So I would pick all these things, but not necessarily only these things, for my last meal:
*Tony's three chili chicken from Lao Sze Chuan
*Crispy shrimp with mayonnaise sauce from Lao Sze Chuan
*salt and pepper shrimp (shell on) from Little Three Happiness (yes I love Chinese food)
*Yemeni salta (I have eaten at that very restaurant!)
*stuffed sopapillas
*sopapillas - not stuffed, with honey
*the chile relleno from Amelia's
*shawerma (also must be from Yemen - none of that Middle Eastern restaurant in the US garbage)
*this pasta casserole my husband makes with penne, bechamel, roasted squash, sage, and bacon - must be nueske's
*bibimbap
*snickerdoodle cookies, made by my friend Kat
*spaghetti and meatballs
*duck confit (true story: I once wept into a plate of duck confit because it was really, really good. Also I may have been a little overtired, drunk, and excited that our friend Luis had returned from a year abroad.)
*soft shell crab with a nice creamy curry sauce
*French fries - super salty, please
*an entire pineapple
*a hot dog from Gene & Jude's
*a cheese plate including the most rank-ass cheeses France has to offer
*an entire fish roasted on a board
*pasta yiayia
Yeah I think that about covers the basics. Maybe in my next post I'll start talking about the beverage pairings.
My dessert island, or last supper, meal is CHOCOLATE CAKE. And that is that.
Preferably my grandma’s chocolate sheet cake. But I’m flexible as to the actual specific type.

oh my God and how could I forget.
PIEROGIS.
I am SO with you on that prompt. I couldn’t decide, either. And eating myself to death sounds like a good idea, especially if it involves copious amounts of butter. YUM.
Gerald must have heard something about the last meal thing and the death penalty, I guess somewhere they’ve stopped serving last meals and make the person eat whatever is on the menu that day. So I saw the prompt and immediately thought the same thing. I love how huge your last meal list is.

Seriously, reading this just made my day.
Mind if I just sit down at that table beside you? So much tasty!
