Log Cabin Petals

It's shaping up to be a pretty hectic weekend around here - seeing a lot of friends, but also feeling overwhelmed and like I'm not getting enough down time. Perhaps you can relate. So what I'm saying is I'm sorry for another slightly cranky post. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be refreshed and more fit for online consumption.

And now to the crocheted square part of the post:

I'm sharing my progress working through the Chain Reaction Afghan Project. It's been great fun so far to really expand my repertoire of crochet techniques. Each square in the blanket is designed by a different person using different techniques/skills, and is only 12x12", so I'm never bored.

This was actually the first time I'd done log cabin, in either knitting or crochet. Working back and forth and watching the piece grow was a bit of a thrill. Overall though I feel like there's just one too many things going on in this square. It either needs to loose the flower motif in the middle (the way the log cabin stripes are attached to that look a bit sloppy) or have fewer colors in the log cabin section. My preference is for the former, I think; why not just make a square that's all log cabin? And then if there are four colors, the diagonal split will add visual interest instead of confusion.
