Remember my garter mystery blob from yesterday? It's a hat!
The pattern is an oldie: Urchin by Ysolda, available for free on her site as a pdf or on knitty, where it originally appeared. It starts with a provisional cast on (I tried the crochet cast on for the first time and I am NEVER going back to the scrap yarn method), then you work around sideways with a ton of short rows on each side, for shaping at the top and around the brim. It's a super clever, super fun pattern to work. I was able to cast on one evening and kitchenered my finished hat together the next day. I just gave it a little spritz to block and spread it over these pasta plate/bowl things we have that are the perfect size for blocking berets. I think this hat will get a ton of wear this winter.
super cute on you!
my head + berets = do not mix.

Like Carolyn, I cannot wear berets.
But I shouldn’t complain because most other types of hats suit me well.
I had NO IDEA from your WIP pics that this was a hat. It’s so cute on you!

Looks great! The perfect size and structure. Oldie but goodie for sure!
It really looks wonderful on you! Maybe I should knit one to improve on the short rows!

You look adorable!
And seriously, crochet provisional cast on = best thing ever.
That hat is fabulous! That’s a great color on you.
