I have such a bad case of I WANT TO MAKE EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW that I'm feeling overwhelmed. It's a little ridiculous, because I want to make all these things because they'll be fun, and here I am getting stressed out by my fun. Boy am I ever a grad student; I can get stressed out about anything. So here are the things I'm considering most urgently (you know, "urgently") at the moment, in no particular order:
*finishing Cassie's French press cozy (this can be done in like 1 or 2 days)
*I need to design and make a little mobile phone case using tapestry crochet. This will be for a class I'll be teaching at Loopy next year to introduce students to tapestry crochet. I'm pretty psyched about it. Students will get a piece of graph paper when they sign up and will be able to chart their own designs in the first few minutes of class, then they'll make a chain slightly wider than their phone/ipod/whathaveyou and dive right in to learning the technique. This is how their stranded knitting teacher currently runs her class and I think it's a great way to go about things. I'm pretty sure I'll use Cascade Ultra Pima for this.
*finishing my empoisonnées.
*a test knit for a friend. It is a sweater, and I bought yarn for it today because there is a sale at Loopy.
*I've had a new crocheted scarf design bouncing around in my head for a while and it's ridiculous that I haven't just made one and written up the pattern yet. It's a super simple pattern but I think (from the searches I've done looking for similar things) it's pretty unique. It's got kind of a woven look and is worked lengthwise. It's a good unisex pattern. I'd particularly like to make a prototype to send to a friend who kind of unexpectedly gave me a crapload of yarn a while back, as a thank you. And it's been entirely too ridiculously long since I've put out a new design.
*I'd like to make another thank you gift for a friend who did something super, super nice for me. (Sorry, hi, I'm vague.)
*And I have yet another design idea: it is for a cowl. It'll use two colors of sock yarn. And actually, two colors of sock yarn are on their way to me right now! I may or may not do short and long (i.e. infinity or whatever) versions. I'm not a big fan of the infinity scarf *except* for the possibility of wearing it wrapped around my neck multiple times for extra warmth, but for this I may make an exception. (No offense if you're an infinity fan. We can agree to disagree.)
*And this is the final bullet point on my "to do IMMEDIATELY" list (most ridiculous list ever) is a Brocade redesign. (And this is where the picture at the top of the post comes in.) Despite the fact that the pattern won a sock design contest, it is my least successful, sales/FO-wise. I think there's a few different reasons for this, only a couple of which are within my control. But the pattern could use some better pictures. I've also kind of been fantasizing about making a taller version of the sock. I even have yarn specially designated for this project! It's from Weaving Southwest! It's in beautiful colors! But ... it's a lot of work - not just to knit the socks, but to make all those edits to the pattern and take new pictures - it's almost like doing an entirely new design. And an almost entirely new stranded sock design is a pretty daunting amount of work.
i’ve got a to do list like this so i know what you are talking about.

My to-do immediately lists can be overwhelming, and I think that played a part in The Great Knitting Break of 2011. I am currently trying to knit the things that make me happy, and I’m ignoring the things that make knitting less fun.
The cell phone case idea is great for a class!

So, would you like to postpone our Stripe Studying? I’m okay with that, and I bet the others would be, too. My to-do list is long, too, so I’m totally cool with a little delay.
Also, I’ve long admired Brocade, but was always intimidated by colorwork. Now that I have one stranded project under my belt, I think a pair of lovely Brocade is in my future!
I could testknit a brocade sock or two for ya. After December 9th.

I’m not a graduate student anymore and I still stress over everything. I think it’s our personality actually. Though I’m all for blaming graduate school.
I want to knit everything too. But I don’t think I can blame graduate school for that one.
