Remember those socks I was knitting?

Yeah, I'm not knitting them anymore. The pattern is lovely; great, even. But apparently, despite the fact that the sock circumference was right on my row gauge was way off and I didn't put this together until I'd knit a mile long foot. Check it out:

Haaaaaaaaaa. Um, no. So I sent that picture to my mom last night and fessed up that the socks were supposed to be for her, and asked if they were too feminine for my dad. I mean, far be it from me to gender a sock pattern, but if I'm going to repurpose the socks as a dad gift I want to be sure he'll actually wear them. I kept knitting for a couple more hours. They look nice, right, even if they're WAY too long? I know in the second picture they look don't like the same huge socks, but TRUST ME - they are still way too big.

This morning my mom wrote back, saying that the sock does indeed look pretty feminine, but more importantly she reminded me that my dad's feet are actually about the same size as hers and mine. Rrrrrrrip.

Well I guess now I can work on other things...?

  4. I had one of these moments. For the first time in my life, I swatched for a sock and then ended up knitting half of it and still needed to rip the whole sucker out. VERY stretchy yarn and it was just too big. So I feel your pain.

I LOVE the unrelated cat picture.
